Mr. Ben Stein, producer of the movie “Expelled,” says "Murder Intelligently Designed is an astonishingly thoughtful, well written book that provides not only a compelling plot line, but insight into an immense social and academic issue."
When atheistic biology professor, Brenda Blechard, is found flattened under a bust of Nietzsche, Grit Griffin, Grace Willis, and fellow "Deep Water" members must solve the crime and exonerate a friend.
Take a humorous journey through "Murder Intelligently Designed," laugh at academic foolishness, and resolve to live by grace.
Murder Intelligently Designed Grit and Grace Mysteries Book 2 edition by Becky Wooley Literature Fiction eBooks
With “Murder Intelligently Designed,” author Becky Wooley has followed up her first Grit and Grace Mystery (“The Non-Prophet Murders”) with a well (and intelligently) designed novel that finds Truman “Grit” Griffin and his partner in crime-solving, Amy Grace Willis, trying to save an innocent friend from an almost certain murder conviction.Wooley had this reader fully engaged from the book’s cover description, which reads: “Brenda Bleckard, Bennettville State’s nihilistic biology teacher and tenured cougar, is ready to commit academic mayhem when she hears that fellow teacher Troy Michaelson, plans to show a movie about Intelligent Design. Police find Troy outside Bleckard’s office covered in blood and Bleckard inside crushed by a bust of Nietzsche. College-aged amateur sleuths, Grit Griffin and Grace Willis, scour the campus to prove their friend is innocent.”
Nihilism? Tenured cougar? Intelligent design? Death by Nietzsche? The hook was set!
Wooley’s sequel resurrects the ensemble of key characters in the Deep Water friendship circle that marked Wooley’s first book in this (one hopes) long series of books about the encounters of young, smart, thoughtful Christians who are as persevering in their pursuit of spiritual fulfillment as they are of criminal justice. While the milieu of Wooley’s book will be as alien to avowedly secular readers as it will be familiar to readers who disavow secularism, Wooley writes mysteries that are both worldly and spiritually wise. Moreover, and significantly, her writing never lacks for clever wording and bit-after-bit of laugh-out-loud humor. “Murder Intelligently Designed” displays its author’s excellent understanding of contemporary issues of academic freedom, free speech, creationism, evolution, the merits of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, and film.
Comedian-investment guru-film producer Ben Stein likes this book, no doubt because a film like his controversial movie “Expelled,” is central to Wooley’s plot. I like it, however, for different reasons, not the least of which is finding again, as in her previous mystery, that Wooley—an avowed Christian, conservative, minister’s wife, and former church secretary—presents interesting characters that underscore the diversity of opinion and approach to issues—both religious and political—that exists within all branches of the American Christian community and which defies stereotyping. This makes Wooley an important writer who deserves a wide audience. That aside, her books are a delight to read, and her latest is most intelligently designed.

Murder Intelligently Designed Grit and Grace Mysteries Book 2 edition by Becky Wooley Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I have not yet read the book but after reading the title and synopsis, I will easily give it four stars, and may actually read portions online. You see, any time an atheist academic biologist can be brought to the Lord's justice in a cruel or violent way, well, it just warms my heart. Tonight after giving the boys their nightly bedtime whoopin, I will make a cup of tea and get cozy up with this story and I trust that the righteous will prevail.
I chose to read this book after completing the authors first novel, nonprofit murders. I liked the characters and wanted to see what the next adventure held. Once again, I enjoyed the writing style which makes for easy reading. There is a positive message in her books though she doesn't shy away from true hard life issues. She infuses humor throughout. I look forward to observing the growth of the author and the characters.
Sweet! Fast-moving, humorous, and thought-provoking. Quick-changing scenes kept the characters fresh and connected to the story flow and the plot. Well done, Miss Becky. And...the murderer is...well, try to solve the deed with Grit and Grace.
Murder mysteries are not my cup of tea, and in fact I had never read this specific genre, a clerical crime novel. Perhaps this is common in this genre, but I found myself confused by the numerous characters and points of view that populate this novel. In the next book, the author might want to incorporate a list of characters in the front for the reader to keep for reference to keep everyone straight, or only have a few points of view and less characters. That said, much of the writing is humorous, and probably more so if you are into church politics. The book's pace picks up around the time of the crime, and thereafter. Also, the romance aspects of the novel involving the main characters, Grace and Grit, are very well done, and realistic.
All of the details of the murder of Dr. Brenda Bleckard lead nowhere until the amateur detectives, Grit and Grace get involved. Dr. Bleckard was adamant that the group of Christian students would not show the movie "Intelligently Designed" at the college. She was certainly not a believer and pledged her influence against anything which spoke of God as creator or designer of the universe. With a faction in the Bennettville One True Church committed to doing things the way they'd always been done, there was another group who desired the members to allow the Holy Scriptures to guide the church. Grit and Grace help obtain the release of a friend who is accused of the murder and work toward finding who committed the crime. This Grit & Grace Mystery keeps the reader guessing who or what is next. Author, Becky Wooley, merges faith and community well in this book. I received this book for my honest review
